Kanaya’s smile made Rose smile in return. In the end, she hadn’t been expecting to make any new friends while she was studying the floral, fauna and life of Alternia. Yet here she was, fairly sure she’d made a good friend within barely a conversation. Sometimes things worked like that, she supposed.
While the troll shifted, Rose took the opportunity to drop the shawl on her shoulders off and neatly fold it on the rock. Though the wind was still blowing, it certainly wasn’t as cold as it had been.
“Quite, I’m glad we are so agreeable in this aspect, Kanaya. I have not had such a conversation like this in a rather long time. You are a delight.”
Kanaya felt that same, jade blush creep up onto her face again as she shifted her legs, crossing then re-crossing them before looking at the human again. It was true. She hadn’t expected to make a new friend recently. Well, save for Karkat’s elder in blood color, but a human? No, she hadn’t predicted this, and it was positively delightful. The small smile on her face spread at the praise.
Why, thank you. I have not had a conversation such as this in a long time, also. It is wonderful. I must say the same for you, dear. You are a delight to speak to, as you said.

Rose brightened up a bit, probably the most she’d ever been when the other assumed her almost exact position. They could talk face to face. Talking next to each other was nice and all, but talking rather to another person was much more inviting.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to be here at any rate. Eggs.. I see.” She thought about what little she knew about the troll’s reproduction. They came from eggs, apparently. Which made more sense looking at their more bird and insect like features compared at least to the ones she’d met. “Your life doesn’t seem that exciting. Perhaps that is a good thing, though. Trust me on this, never having a true day to rest is rather exhausting. You cannot ever just go home and relax… unless you count the ship as a home. Always work to do when you have a busy and ‘exciting’ life.”
Though Rose did like her life, traveling around space and meeting new species. But sometimes it would be easier to just have sat back at home and let her life play out. Become a famous novelist instead of cruising around in a giant spaceship with her friends. But she loved this life more than that. She certainly wouldn’t have made as many friends or met Kanaya.
The smile on the jadeblood’s face grew when the other beamed. Oh, well. She’d done something right! That was good! Her tail shifted, curling onto her lap, her own claws curling in the feathered end slight, musing with it.
After a moment Kanaya nodded, offering the other a slightly toothy smile. Damn her slightly elongated fangs. One hand raised to carefully brush back a stray bang from her face. Hm. Travelling and having an adventure for a life didn’t sound bad, but it would be exhausting, worrying about her friends all the time. She did prefer this so far.
Yes, I suppose you are right, Rose. I wouldn’t want to run around worrying even more about my friends. Though, I am glad you chose this life, for, once again, I would not have had the pleasure to meet you.
Rose followed her movements before chuckling. It was quite nice that they seemed to get along so well. Even based purely on each other’s reactions. It was new and exciting, just meeting Kanaya.
She registered the fangs and tilted her head curiously. She assumed that for the most part, the trolls had fangs like so because they were probably meat-eaters. It seemed to be that, though Kanaya’s were rather long considering that.
“Well, it is not that bad. You develop closer relationships with your friends, worrying and watching over them. It’s nice in that aspect, at the least. And… yes, as am I. It is quite a pleasure to meet you.” She moved her head to stare out over the rocks. “I am glad of that decision thus far.”
Kanaya shifted slightly again, her black lips curling into a small smile as she watched the other girl. Good. She was actually enjoying her company. Sometimes, the troll girl worried that she was boring the other, but apparently not!
Carefully, the jadeblood shifted again, legs crossing over one another as she assumed a more… civilized position, her own feathered tail curling behind her as she cocked her head to the side, smiling.
Yes, I suppose you are right. It is nice in that way. Also, it has been a pleasure to meet you, also. It’s quite nice to have someone to speak, and I am glad of your decision.

She watched the smirk raise to the other’s lips and she chuckled a little more. She definitely liked Kanaya. Someone who certainly matched her, no matter how many times she thought there might be a few more differences.
“I hope I wasn’t interrupting then. Though I could guess not since you seem to find it a pleasure to talk to me.” Rose smiled a little wider. “Do tell me, Kanaya, what else do you other than escaping your caverns and thinking to yourself.”
She moved so she was facing the other completely, tucking legs under her thighs and planting her hands neatly in her lap. The smaller winds blew her shrug to the side and her hair moved more to the side now too. She tucked what she could behind her ear.
Kanaya could definently say the same for the other. While there were some differences, there were also similarities that was much more obvious. Yes, a difference in species, but their brains seemed to work much the same. She assumed a similar position at the other, tucking her feet under herself, hands resting in her lap and wings shielding off the cold.
Of course you weren’t interrupting, dear. If anything, I’m more pleased to see another, especially one who I get along with so well. Ah… Well, when not tending to the eggs and mother grubs in the caverns, I… haven’t really done much. I have helped a few injured trolls here and there, but otherwise, my life has been sadly uneventful. I have yet to meet our species’ new Emperor, who shares the blood of Karkat, which is a bit irksome. I will have to remind the boy of it. Otherwise, though… I do not really do much at all.
She frowned a bit as she thought of this. Crap, her life was truly boring as of late, and it made her sad. She was hoping for something interesting and eventful. Not… this. Well, save meeting Rose and reuniting with her friends.

Though Rose didn’t quite understand the romance system of the trolls, she certainly could compare parts of her own culture to get a feeling for it. She still needed to ask someone to explain that to her. She’d only been given a vague idea of how it worked.
But it was much more different than the human romance, which was no surprise.
“Pity? That is one of your forms of romance… correct?” She furrowed her eyebrows for a moment but then shook her head and continued. “You did? That sounds like you would be quite close then.”
She chuckled slightly but then nodded. It wasn’t that she made a bad impression, but not everyone she’d met taken her well in their first meeting. Not everyone likes snark and sarcasm. Or understood it, for that matter. But Kanaya seemed rather intelligent and Rose hadn’t felt the need to prove it through a battle of wits.
“Quite. Yes, I.. Thank you. And I you.” She smiled lightly at the other girl. “A much more enjoyable conversation than I thought I was going to have today.”
Kanaya understood troll relationships quite well. Almost to a fault, even. She was one always called to fill that ashen quadrant, and she obliged. Not because she enjoyed it, no. That was hardly the reason. On the contrary, she felt an almost… obligation to her friends. Her kindness bit her in the ass sometimes, really.
A soft smile came across her face as the other spoke and… thanked her? Well, I suppose it made sense. A small laugh escaped her lips again, her smile turning into a smirk.
Yes, and the same for me. Honestly, I hadn’t even expected to see another sentient being tonight. I was planning to converse within my own mind, so to speak.
